How Wolves changed the rivers
How Wolves changed the rivers
Tuesday 21st may 2019
How do you think wolves transformed the rivers?
I’ll tell you now
One of the most exciting scientific findings in the past half
century has been the discovery of widespread tropic
cascade a tropic cascade is ecological
process starting from the top of the food chain
and tumbles down to the very bottom and a classic example
is what happened in Yellowstone national park in america
when wolves were reintroduced in 1995 we all know wolves
kill a veris species animals but also give life to many others .
Before the wolves turned up they had been absent forcentury has been the discovery of widespread tropic

when wolves were reintroduced in 1995 we all know wolves

70 years wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone national
park in 1995. Since there were no predators to hunt the deer
there population grew larger and larger the deer simply they
grazed all the vegetation . as soon as the wolves arrived than
a remarkable thing happened ,yes they killed some of the
deer then the deer started avoiding certain parts of the park
such as the canyons and gorges those areas regenerated the
height of trees quintupled in just 6 years. Bear valley sides
aspen, willow and cottonwood as soon as that happened, the
birds moved in the number of song birds migratory birds
started to increase greatly ,and the number of beavers started
to increase greatly because of the trees. Just like the
wolves beavers are ecosystem engineers and create leashes
for species and their dams make habitats for other species
such as otters and muskrats ,ducks and fish.
the wolves killed the coyotes,as a result the number of rabbits
and mice increased.which meant more hawks more wesles
more foxes more badgers. Ravens, bald eagles
fed on the carien the wolves left bears fed on it to their
population started to rise to,partly also because there were
more bearys growing on the regenerating shrubs, and the
bears reinforced the impact of the wolves by
killing some of the calves of the deer. But here's where it gets
really interesting, the wolves changed the behavior of the
rivers they became meanderles there was less erosion the
chanels narrowed more pools formed more riffel
sections all of wich were good for wildlife habitats
but the rivers changed in response to the wolves. And the
reason was the regenerating forests stabilized the banks
so the rivers became more fixed in their corse .
by driving the deer out of some places and the
vegetation recovering on the valley side there was les soil
erosion . wolves small in number changed
yellowstone national park .

fishing for the future
Fishing for the future
Fishing for the future is important because
There will be no more fish, first I’ll tell you about boat safety.
Water safety is important because 291 people
have died in 2017 because of not wearing a life jacket ,
life jackets help you keep a float when the boat crashes
life jackets help you keep a float when the boat crashes
Now i’ll talk about the fish
When you catch a fish make sure
when you pick up the fish you use a wet towel so the fish
doesn't lose its protective coating the protective
doesn't lose its protective coating the protective
coating acts like sunscreen
otherwise the fish will burn and die, if you don’t have
a wet towel make sure that your fingers are wet

Another thing about the fishing is that
you use salt water ice. You need salt water
ice because it helps keep it fresh, normal ice on the
other hand makes the fish go of

Also when you catch a fish you have to measure
the fish From the tip of the nose to the middle of the tail
the fish From the tip of the nose to the middle of the tail
with a Fish ruler eg snapper has to be 30cm if it
is to small let it go, if it is to big let it go.
Next up seabirds
Did you know More than 10,000
seabirds caught by commercial fishermen
since 2013 the most common seabirds to be caught
ver petrels albatrosses. Out of 9,000 bird species
worldwide, only 360 are seabirds. Of these, 86 breed in
New Zealand and nine breed in other places but
visit New Zealand each year. A number of other species
visit from time to time. New Zealand's
seabirds include
penguins, albatrosses,
petrels, shags, prions, gannets and skuas.
